Ciutat Vella is the largest district in Barcelona. Its population is more than 113.000 inhabitants. Geographically speaking Cuitat Vella is the historical centre of the City, indeed Barcelona was a walled city until 1859. In fact Cuitat Vella means OLd Town. It is surrounded by roads such as Paral·lel, the rondas, Calle Pelayo, the Paseo de Lluís Companys and Ciutadella park. Ciutat Vella is formed by four great areas. In the south, Barceloneta, the youngest area. Barceloneta use to be home to many of the fisherman so there is aslecetion of smaller properties for sale in Barceloneta. They tend to be quite exensive per square metre but it is one of the few areas where it is possible to purchase an apartment for around 200,000 euros.Raval is becoming an increasingly popular area to invest due to its central location. Many of the big hotel chains are already moving in and there is alot of investment in the area.The Gothic area also forms part of Cuitat Vella. The last area is Borne, formed by Sant Pere, Santa Caterina and la Ribera, la medieval extension of the city. Cuitat Vella has been rejuvenated in the last two decades, most of the buildings have been well conserved or renovated. This means that there are a large number of renovated apartments for sale in the Borne area.
Due to its central location,historical past and proximity to the sea, Cuitat Vella is a wonderful place to live. One small disadvantage when buying a property is that in many of the older buildings it is not possible to install a lift. This however is normally reflected in the price. Also many properties do not have car parking in the same building, there are however a large number of municipal parkings in the area.
